Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Mercersburg Inn is one of the few 20,000-square-foot Georgian mansions that have become inns and the owners have used the space beautifully. Rooms are larger than large (rare these days), ceilings are high, and large-scale furniture fits the proportions of the windows and the many fireplaces. The inn’s staircase is a memorable one, with a double set of stairs sweeping upwards toward the second floor. There are 17 bedrooms and bathrooms tucked here and there on the second and third floors of the mansion, with a choice of queen and king beds. Some of the bathrooms are of the size of bedrooms in today’s homes and represent an era when claw-foot tubs and large porcelain sinks were popular. My favorite room, up on the third floor, was decorated in colors of blue and yellow and had a king bed with many pillows just inviting an afternoon read or perhaps even a nap. The gas fireplace had been installed so that it could be seen from both the bedroom and the bathroom. Other bedrooms were much larger—I suppose the term would be grand—but they are all of another era when gracious living without the pace of today’s world was the norm. The inn serves a full breakfast in the dining room and on a glassed-in side porch, and a candlelight dinner is available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
