One word comes immediately to mind the moment you step through the front mahogany doors and into the impressive foyer of Portland’s White House: opulence. You’ll be welcomed warmly at the foot of a sweeping, central staircase below antique, stained-glass windows, knowing full well you are in no ordinary place and in for no ordinary experience. Pure elegance describes this gorgeously restored Colonial Revival Mediterranean-styled mansion, graced in front by a circular drive and classic Greek columns. Notice the exquisite use of color throughout the public rooms downstairs and the original hand-painted French wallpaper with mahogany trim. An antique porcelain collection lines the game room, while a crystal chandelier commands attention in the dining room. There are five marvelous bedrooms in the main building and three in the Carriage House. All feature feather beds, private baths, air conditioning, flat-screen TV/DVD, IPOD docks, CD players, telephones,data ports and wireless internet . A full gourmet breakfast is served at an elegant table in the formal dining room. Majestic, presidential, and thoroughly romantic, Portland’s White House will leave its impression long after you’ve reluctantly walked away.
