Mainstay Inn Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

Historic homes whose rooms are grand in proportion and whose ceilings are uncommonly high create a glorious welcome for those who cross their thresholds, and Italianate architecture adds an extra touch of grandeur. The Mainstay Inn offers accommodation in two neighboring buildings. The principal building dates back to 1872 when it was built as a club for gentlemen for gambling and other gentlemanly activities, and the use of furniture and accessories from the period and the attention to detail make this inn exceptional. The porch with its rockers beckons and is an ideal spot to settle for tea and cookies served here on a summer afternoon. Once you’re inside the large front hall, you’re drawn in several directions at once. The tall mirror, the staircase, the small parlor to the left and the dining room just beyond—both with magnificent Victorian chandeliers—and the large parlor on the right are all magnificent. Joined by a brick, garden path, the Cottage is equally lovely. Bedrooms in both buidings enjoy high ceilings and are beautifully proportioned with great beds and bathrooms.
