Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Castle Hotel stands on the site of a former Cistercian abbey, the latest incarnation of a 14th Century coaching inn. The impressive granite and brick façade was “recently” added at the turn of the 19th Century. Once inside exposed beams, antiques, collectibles nooks and crannies bear testament to the building’s fascinating heritage. Over its life the hotel has played host to a variety of celebrities including, most notably, William Wordsworth, Samuel Johnson and Charlotte Bronte. A particularly grand old hand carved four-poster bed, dated 1570, was reputedly used by none other than King Charles I during the Civil War. All the rooms have been recently renovated and provide comfortable, contemporary style, accommodations come in a variety of shapes and sizes ranging up to the grandly spacious Wynn and Caer Rhun suites, the latter with a two person spa bathtub. Dawson’s Bar and restaurant feature extensive use of local Welsh produce. The town of Conwy, an important gateway to North Wales for centuries, is dominated by its magnificent Edwardian Castle. It is also home to what is reputedly the “smallest house in Britain” on the waterfront, a few minutes walk from the hotel.
