Standing at the quieter end of High Street (no through traffic, just the occasional horse clip-clopping by) but a short walk to the bustle of Broadway village centre, The Olive Branch is a real find. Dating back to the 1590’s the two-story building has been added to and expanded over the years. Functioning previously, among other things, as a shop and a bakery, it has been operated as a bed and breakfast since 1961 and under the watchful eye of the current owners since 1999. As expected in an old “listed” building, the guest accommodations rooms vary in size and format although quality is the watchword throughout. The rooms in the back of the house are larger but all are more than adequate, tastefully decorated, with comfy furnishings and functional bathrooms, all except the lone single room are en suite. Taller guest have plenty of opportunities to bump their heads on their way up the narrow staircase, all part of the adventure. Breakfast is served in the dining room with its original stone floor and exposed beams, and ranges from home-made muesli to fruit smoothies or David’s classic “full English.” Guests are welcome to use the cozy sitting room, comfortable sofas, as well as the walled garden to the rear (the source of Pam’s flower arrangements). A stay at The Olive Branch is a handy for exploring Oxford, Stratford and Warwick.
