The Burgoyne Hotel
A Karen Brown Recommended Hotel / Inn

Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Burgoyne family were people of substance hereabouts for they secured the premier building site in this picturesque Swaledale village and built an impressive home that dwarfs the surrounding buildings, a most welcoming hotel run for many years by Derek Hickson. Derek makes guests feel thoroughly at home and he makes certain that they live up to the motto, “Tis substantial happiness to eat.” A fixed-price, four-course meal is offered every evening with plenty of choices for each course. The handsome lounge is warmed by a log fire in winter and full of inviting books on the area. There’s abundant scope for walking and driving in this rugged area using Reeth as your base, though you’ll be hard-pressed to find a lovelier dales view than the one from your bedroom window of stone-walled fields rising to vast moorlands (one bedroom faces the back of the house). Redmire, being more spacious, is the premier room, while Marrick is a most luxurious four-poster suite. Robes and slippers are provided for the occupants of Keld, Grinton, and Thwaite who have to slip across the hall to their bathrooms. Richmond with its medieval castle and the Bowes Museum, near Barnard Castle, with its fine collection of French furniture and porcelain, are added attractions.
