Charlton House Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

While the house dates back to the 17th century, the estate is mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086 when monks from nearby Glastonbury ran a prosperous farm here. Under the ownership of Roger and Monty Saul the house has receive a new lease on life as a luxury country house hotel. With its rich theatrical decor there are a touches of whimsy and opulence throughout. Nowhere more so than in the spa, a Moroccan style retreat replete with indoor/outdoor hydrotherapy pool, gym, sauna and treatment rooms that include couples rooms. Stylishly comfortable drawing rooms lead to the award-winning conservatory restaurant which specializes in organic meats and produce, much of it coming from the hotel’s estate. This includes spelt, an ancient cereal grain, used instead of wheat in the hotels muesli, breads and pastries. Bedrooms are a delight, varying from spacious rooms to decadent suites. Request one with a verandah, tiny garden or terrace. The historic City of Wells with its beautiful cathedral and twice weekly markets is just a few miles away, as is Glastonbury with its myths of the Holy Grail and King Arthur. Bath with its abbey, Roman baths and museums is a popular day trip.
