Karen's Review Of This Property:
When your delightful hosts, Jacqueline and John Wegink, arrived in Belalp (high on a mountain meadow above Blatten) it was a foggy night. Their hotel had linoleum floors, ugly fluorescent lighting, and dismal décor. However, the next morning when they opened their curtains, the sky had cleared, and when they saw the dazzling panorama of mountain peaks, they agreed Belalp had to be one of most beautiful places in the world. The end of the story is like a fairytale. They returned home to Holland, but their hearts kept going back to the glorious mountain beauty in Belalp. They decided life is precious and happiness not judged by monetary success; so they called the tiny hotel in Belalp, asked the owner if he would sell, bought the inn, and moved to Switzerland. They totally renovated the hotel, mostly with their own labor and reopened it in 2004. The hotel is unpretentious, but endearing in its simplicity. The heart of the inn is its cozy lounge where comfy chairs are grouped around the fireplace and the adjacent dining room/bar where rustic log walls, terracotta floor, red checked fabric, fresh flowers, wood carvings, and crystal chandeliers set a scene of rustic simplicity and charm. The bedrooms are simple but very comfortable, and all have private bathrooms and internet connection.
