Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Hotel du Lac is located on Lake Geneva only about 12 kilometers east of Geneva. Although the hotel is on a busy road, behind the hotel is a pretty garden with a lawn stretching down to a private pier on the lake. The Hotel du Lac carries the air of an elegant home rather than that of a hotel. It does not appear very old, but it is. In fact, in 1626 the hotel was granted the exclusive right to receive and lodge people arriving by coach or horseback. At that time travelers on foot were excluded as guests of the inn because, as a memorandum dated 1768 decreed, “The titled man of wealth riding in his own coach and four must not be housed with the peasant, the knife-sharpener, the chimney-sweep—the latter would feel too ill at ease.” The Hotel du Lac has been carefully restored and now you, too, can dream you are one of the guests arriving by “coach and four.” The hotel has retained many of its old beams, stone walls, and lovely antique furniture and artifacts. All the bedrooms are attractive: some have kitchenettes, five suites have balconies with lake views, and some have a small terrace squeezed into the jumble of tiled rooftops. For those who want to be away from the city, the Hotel du Lac offers an appealing choice for visitors to Geneva.
