Karen's Review Of This Property:
Iseltwald, one of the cutest of all the villages tucked along the shoreline of Lake Brienz, has the advantage of having its beauty intact since the main highway runs above the town. Quaint wooden homes tucked along the cobbled pedestrian-only streets add to its appeal. Nostalgic steamers stop regularly at the town’s dock—making it easy to hop aboard to explore other towns, such as Interlaken and Brienz. A great choice for accommodations is the Hotel Chalet du Lac. The hotel, made from two antique farmhouses, is very pretty with many balconies and windows boxes filled with colorful red geraniums. There is nothing opulent or deluxe about the hotel: rather, it is a sweet, simple, well-managed, family hotel with moderately priced rooms and genuine warmth of welcome. Perhaps what makes this hotel special is that it has been in the same family over a hundred years. Sascha Abegglen, who is the chef in the kitchen, is the 6th generation here. The inn has a large terrace in front where meals are served overlooking the lake, which is the purest one in Switzerland. There is also a restaurant inside decorated with typical light pine furniture. The bedrooms are in two styles. Some are extremely contemporary in décor with modern furniture. Other guestrooms are more traditional in style with light pine furniture. If you want to splurge, ask for the room overlooking the lake with the canopy king-sized bed.
