Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Carina-Carlton sits on the road facing Lake Lugano in the picturesque small village of Morcote, just a 20-minute drive south of Lugano. Across the street from the hotel is an outdoor restaurant perched on stilts over the lake, with flowers and a brightly striped awning adding even further enchantment to this dining haven. An inside dining room has a wood-beamed ceiling, white walls accented by green plants, and Oriental rugs covering its tiled floor. The breakfast buffet is set here but in fine weather guests usually eat on the adjacent patio. The bedrooms in front can be a bit noisy with the traffic on the street below, but they are still my favorites. Quieter rooms are found in the back, many looking out to the small pool snuggled in the upper terrace. I love room 35, a spacious room with excellent lake views. If you really want to splurge, room 45 is very special—a large, bright corner room with two balconies, one looking out over the tiled rooftops to the lake and the other overlooking the pool with a vista to the church. The Carina-Carlton is very convenient as a base in Switzerland’s beautiful southern Lake District. You do not need a car—just board one of the ferries that ply the lake to the many quaint lakeside towns.

Directions: Leave Lugano in the direction of Milan and Morcote is the first exit after the long tunnel. Follow the lakefront road for 5 km to the hotel. There is free parking at either end of the town.
