Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Gasthof Hirschen isn’t a fancy, posh hotel, but if you want to stay in a sweet, family hotel, with fabulous food and old-fashioned hospitality, this is a gem. The gasthof, built in the typical chalet style, sits on a corner in the center of the small village of Oey, a town where the Diemtigal Valley begins, a gorgeous valley that has received awards for being one of the most beautiful in Switzerland. The Kunz family has owned the Gasthof Hirschen for over 100 years. They have been farmers in the valley forever and still take their cows up to the high mountain pastures in summer. The latest family members to take over the hotel are an endearing young couple, Anna and Daniel Kunz. Anna is an exceptionally talented chef who uses products fresh from their own farm. Her reputation as a chef is such that the tables at the restaurant are always packed. A specialty of the house is a delicious White Forest Cake, made from Kirsch, cream, and fresh raspberries. Daniel, in addition to working at the hotel, is an active farmer, a professional yodeler, a talented accordion player, a ski instructor, and a champion wrestler (the Swiss version is called Schwingen). There are seven guestrooms (two of these are without private bathroom). Although simple, they are very attractive with wood paneled walls, pine furniture, fluffy comforters, down pillows, and white embroidered curtains.
