Karen's Review Of This Property:
The attractive town of Appenzell with its cobbled streets and bounty of shops is at the heart of the canton that bears the same name. At the edge of the pedestrian district on the historic Landgemeindeplatz, the Hotel Appenzell benefits from the expertise and warmth of the Sutter family who owns it. Margrit is often present to greet guests at the front desk, while Leo is responsible for the restaurant’s fine offerings. The hotel has 16 lovely guestrooms, all non-smoking with private bathroom and either tub or shower. The hallways leading to the guestrooms are uncluttered and attractive with a few well-placed antiques. The rooms, whose doors are adorned with lovely stenciling, are similar in their decor and differ only in their color scheme—a soft yellow for the first-floor rooms and a soft rose for the second-floor accommodations. The guestrooms are new, tasteful, and comfortably appointed with internet access. The non-smoking restaurant is always bustling either with lunch or dinner guests or with those tempted by pastries from the adjacent bakery. A standard dinner menu offers traditional Swiss fare at a reasonable price. A breakfast buffet for hotel guests is offered in the intimate Dr Hildebrand Suite.
