Agua Azul La Villa Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

Staying at Agua Azul La Villa is like being a guest in a lovely private home. Located just one bay (five minutes by car) away from the bustling Tangolunda Bay “strip” of Huatulco, the house is snuggled into the hillside above Conejos Bay—one of nine that the area is known for. This small B&B is a marvelous value and offers six air-conditioned bedrooms, each overlooking the bay below from private, hammock-bedecked terraces. Your gracious Canadian hosts, Brooke and Rick Gazer, designed the Pacific Coast-style villa, combining stucco, palm thatch, and wood—successfully achieving an intimate inn tucked in a garden-like setting. The attractive main salon hosts an ample Continental breakfast each morning. The bedrooms are simply decorated with a fresh, uncluttered appeal and feature built-in tile headboards and side tables, terracotta floors, and richly hued blue bedspreads of hand-loomed Guatemalan fabric. Tasteful use of blue-and-white tile livens up the bathrooms and wood wall units with cubbies and hangers serving as closets. For the most spacious guestroom, ask for Orca, which has two beds. The others, each with a queen bed, are smaller. The appealing, two-tiered pool in the back garden is ringed by flowering foliage and features a waterfall and wonderful view. A three-minute walk down the hill takes you to an idyllic, golden crescent of a semi-private, beach.

I read all the wonderful reviews before I booked our stay, so I thought I had made a great choice. Once we arrived, we quickly realized that Agua Azul La Villa exceeded our expectations. The property is even more beautiful in person than on their website, and the gardens were really lush even during Huatulco’s ’dry’ season. The room is simple in the Pacific Coast aesthetic, but very functional with a pretty bathroom and an amazing private terrace. We stayed in the Tortuga room which is the smallest, I believe, but it was spacious enough for the two of us with ample storage room for our belongings and souvenirs. Breakfast consisted of fruit, granola, yogurt and an assortment of breads and pastries, all of which were delicious and served on lovely tableware and different linens every morning. We were within a moderate 10 to 15 minute walk to two great beaches, one of which we had completely to ourselves on the morning we were there. The Villa is located in a private residential area, but taxis arrived within minutes of our telephone call and we were within an easy drive of all the points of interest. Our hosts, Brooke and Richard Gazer, are definitely what make this place superior to other B and Bs. They have anticipated everything a guest could want during their stay and supplied it---chairs, umbrellas and a boogey board for the beach, inflatable floats for the pool, a refrigerator operated on the honor system and stocked with soft drinks, juices and wine, a plentiful and diverse library, and a water cooler with plastic (for the pool) and regular glasses. In addition, Brooke and Richard provided us with extensive information on sightseeing, renting equipment, booking tours, and excellent recommendations on local restaurants in all price ranges. We felt like special guests in their family home and are already planning another visit. Many thanks to them for a memorable stay in Huatulco!
