Just a short drive from the picturesque village of Pátzcuaro, the Hacienda Mariposas is an intimate, exceptionally appealing small inn, secreted in a serene, 25-acre woodland. What an unexpected pleasure to discover such a deluxe, rustic, expertly-run inn offering outstanding amenities so far off the beaten path! The main house, with its thick-tile roof, wraparound veranda, ceramic pots of cheerful red geraniums, and aged-wood columns, resembles a wonderful old Spanish hacienda. Some of the guestrooms are in this building, while others are in a row of cottages tucked under the towering pines. Whatever room you choose, the accommodations are not only comfortable, but display excellent taste. The décor exudes a rustic elegance with corner fireplaces, beamed ceilings, loomed fabrics, colorful ceramic lamps, wrought-iron beds, fine linens, hand-carved tables, and lovely Talavera-tiled bathrooms. On top of this, the friendly staff (costumed in traditional dress) pamper guests like royalty, and the food is fantastic and beautifully prepared. At Hacienda Mariposas, you can enjoy long walks in the forest, spa treatments, horseback riding, jeep tours, forays into Pátzcuaro, and trips to nearby Indian villages and archaeological sites are readily available. Note: Smoking is strictly forbidden anywhere on the property.
