Karen's Review Of This Property:
El Ángel Azul (The Blue Angel) is a delightful Bed & Breakfast that is made even more special by your Swiss hostess, Esther Ammann, a truly a remarkable young woman. While on an extensive road trip exploring the United States, Esther was saving money by sleeping in her car at night. When winter arrived, the nights turned cold so she headed south to sunny Mexico to surf. She ended up in Southern Baja, fell in love with La Paz, and decided to stay. It was a destination made in heaven for her. Since childhood she had been passionate about whales and cacti—both in abundance here. With more bravado than money, she acted on a whim and made an offer to buy an abandoned 19th-century courthouse in the heart of town. To her amazement, her offer was accepted and she became the owner of one of the few historic buildings in La Paz. With determination and a huge amount of her own labor, she beautifully renovated the building and planted in the interior courtyard a fabulous cactus garden. In 1999 she opened the doors to her first guests. A Mexican ambiance prevails with arcaded walkways, wrought iron accents, hand-loomed fabrics, local artifacts, and brilliant colors used throughout. Breakfast is served in the courtyard, which is also a favorite niche for a margarita before heading out to a nearby restaurant for dinner.
