Bordering the region of Veneto and Emilia Romagna is the vast farm property of the Contessa Maria Giustiniani, who runs the agritourism business with the help of her son. Conveniently located on the outskirts of Rovigo, only 15 km from the autostrada exit, you come across the main walled villa and farm complex, now completely abandoned, and shortly thereafter a tree-lined driveway and another group of houses. The horse stables and farmer’s quarters have been converted into guestrooms within the main house, while 6 apartments each with two bedrooms, living room and kitchen are divided among four adjacent houses in the garden. The natural red brick of the 500-year old buildings sets off a lush garden with swimming pool. On the main floor past a comfortable sitting area is the rustic dining room where a traditional breakfast and dinner are served. A long, two-story high, arched porch is also a favorite place for outside dining. Upstairs are the air-conditioned guest bedrooms each furnished with family antiques and complimented by sparkling new bathrooms. We particularly like the larger superior doubles and corner bedrooms. Bikes are available and the terrain is flat. Tour Venetian villas, visit Padova and Monselice, or arrange for cooking lessons.
