Karen's Review Of This Property:
After two years of loving restoration, the Palazzo Stern reopened in the spring of 2008 as a stunning small boutique hotel; one of Venice’s latest jewels. Because it is a sister-hotel of the one of our favorites in Venice, the Locanda Vivaldi, we knew it would be wonderful. And, it is. This 15th-century palace was built by the prestigious Malpaga Family. Later the Stern Family bought the mansion as their private home, totally rebuilt it, and enriched the interior with fine architectural details, gorgeous mosaics, magnificent chandeliers, frescoes, stained glass, and sculptures. The Palazzo Stern faces the Grand Canal, conveniently located next to the Ca’ Rezzonico Vaporetto stop. The peach-colored building with arched Moorish-style windows is very handsome and is further enhanced by a spacious, waterfront terrace. As you enter the reception area, you find a marble staircase lined by columns. The wooden staircase to the next level is a copy of the one at Ca’ D’Oro Museum. All of the guestrooms are lovely. Some face the Grand Canal, while others overlook a private garden, the tiled rooftops of Venice, or a side-canal called the Rio Mapaga. Throughout, the decor is splendid, reflecting a traditional Venetian flair with precious wall fabrics, sumptuous drapes, oriental carpets, frescoes, ornate furnishings, and Murano glass. On the top floor there is a roof-top terrace featuring a Jacuzzi tub. The hotel is planning to open a restaurant. Until then light meals can be ordered at the bar.
