Karen's Review Of This Property:
L’Antico Forziere in the capable hands of Daniela and her industrious family, formerly the manager of another hotel in the guide, is a pleasant and strategic place from which to tour the highlights of Umbria. The ancient stone fortress building on the Tiber river, is located just off the main road which leads to Deruta, one of Italy’s most famous ceramic centers. The views from the house and swimming pool over the valley are quite lovely. Attention has been given to the preservation of the centuries-old building, with exposed stone walls, handmade brickwork, wood beamed ceilings. Accommodation within 3 suites with independent garden entrance or 6 double rooms are appointed in typical Umbrian style with iron wrought beds, hand-woven local fabrics and simple country furniture and many amenities. High emphasis has been given to the restaurant where sons, Stefano and Andrea continue to work wonders, serving excellent local fare including fish and meat specialties within the vaulted brick and stone dining room where many come for a specially-prepared regional meal. Daniela’s husband and third son, Samuele, take care of the general property and serve in the restaurant. Perugia, Assisi, Todi, Orvieto and Spoleto are all within 30 minutes of this base. Excellent value and hospitality.
