The picturesque countryside dotted with medieval hilltowns north of Rome called Sabina is finally getting some recognition after centuries of being just a sleepy rural area. Bed and breakfasts are springing up right and left and at long last the tourist, inexplicably foreign to this lovely area so close to the capital city, has the opportunity to explore this virgin territory with its ancient traditions still in practice. Maria Vittoria, the warm and enthusiastic hostess of Wonderland, as her bed and breakfast translates, is another newcomer to Sabina. She offers a very comfortable level of accommodation in her own home set down below the main road outside of town and facing out to an impressive panorama of hills covered with olive groves and distant mountains. Four bedrooms are found in the main house, elegantly appointed with precious antiques, paintings, and various collections from Maria’s travels. Some have terraces from which you can watch sunsets over the magnificent valley. Two suites have been built into the hillside in front of the home. One has a loft bedroom with sitting area and kitchenette below. There’s a swimming pool for guests to enjoy. A homemade breakfast is served on the front patio.
