Karen's Review Of This Property:
The area of Lazio north of Rome known as “Tuscia” is rich in Etruscan history, small medieval villages, nature reserves, and three picturesque lakes. It is the homeland of the illustrious and powerful Farnese family whose palazzos and fortresses still stand as monuments of their glorious past. In the heart of this fascinating area not far from the coast is the ancient walled town of Tuscania, completely restored after the dramatic earthquake in 1978. Perla and her Argentine husband José brought back to life one of the buildings right in town, opening its doors as a cozy bed and breakfast and Michelin-star restaurant. A small reception area leads on one side to a lounge and wine bar (over 200 labels) and a courtyard. On the other side you find the cheerful, luminous restaurant with checked drapes and tablecloths, antique armoire, still-life paintings, large windows looking out over the tiled rooftops, and ubiquitous gallo (rooster) motif. Here José works his magic, serving innovative creations using seasonal local produce. (A 10% discount is given to our readers on meals.) Upstairs each very comfortable and appealing carpeted bedroom has its own color scheme in matching floral wallpaper, drapery, and bedspread. They have all amenities including air conditioning and are spacious, with high ceilings and marble bathrooms. Gracious hostess Perla guarantees guests’ comfort and assists them in arranging local itineraries.
