( Country House )
A Karen Brown Recommended B & B

Karen's Review Of This Property:
Bruckless House was built in the mid-18th century and lived in by the Cassidy brothers, traders and merchants who sold guns to Napoleon and pickled herrings to Wellington in Portugal. Later the house was owned by a passionate Communist, Commander Fforde, who is remembered for his many good works in the area. Continuing the tradition of colorful owners, Clive and Joan Evans moved here after spending many years in Hong Kong. This lovely home has the most marvelous location, set in wooded acres with garden paths leading down to the rocky shoreline of Bruckless Bay. Colorful Oriental rugs warm the flagstone entryway and mementos of the Evans’ years abroad blend with comfortable family antiques. A log fire warms the dining room on chilly mornings as guests breakfast together round the long polished table. Bedrooms are found in what was once the children’s wing up the back staircase. Nanny’s Room is a delightful twin-bedded room with an en suite bathroom with a power shower over the tub, and a double-bedded room also has an en suite bathroom. Both rooms have single rooms adjacent to them for children. At the top of the driveway, an adorable two-bedroom lodge is perfect for families who wish to stay for several days (in summer it is let on a weekly basis). Bruckless is ideally placed for exploring Donegal.
