Karen's Review Of This Property:
Nestled in a park of beech, oak, chestnut and fruit trees, the Romantik Hotel Dorotheenhof is a jewel. Just 3 kilometers north of Weimar, it is easily accessible by car or bus (a bus stops nearby every 12 minutes). This region of Thüringen is rich in fascinating sights. The property originally supplied fruits and vegetables for Tiefurt Castle. In 1902 Captain von Kalchkreuth built a splendid mansion here naming it for his wife, Dorotheen. In the mid-1990s, the property was lovingly restored by your gracious hosts, Sabine and Matthias Barleben, who have added the amenities and quality of a top-notch hotel. The exterior is painted a pastel butter-yellow with white trim and a red-tiled roof. In front, a lawn slopes gently downward with sitting areas strategically placed to capture the idyllic view. Inside, sunlight streams through the windows, highlighting creamy white walls. A fresh country-style décor is found throughout the cozy lounges, dining rooms, and guestrooms with light wood furniture, attractive fabrics, fresh flowers, and antique accents. In the kitchen, the chef uses freshly picked vegetables and herbs from the hotel’s garden. Perhaps most important, the hotel staff is professional yet extremely friendly and attentive.
Romantik Hotel Guide's Description:
This former country estate, which was lovingly restored in 1996, is set idyllically in its own park and yet still close to the city. After a day on the trail of the poets and thinkers, the hotel has plenty more for you to look forward to: cosy rooms, restaurant, "Dorothy Hall", lounge with its open fireplace, library, summer terrace and herb garden - and of course the "Historical Joys of the Table" made according to recipes from GoetheŽs time.
