Weinhaus Zum Krug

Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Weinhaus Zum Krug is located in Hattenheim, a tiny wine town along the Rhine. The village has many very old buildings with character, but only a few have been restored to reflect their historic past. Happily, the Weinhaus Zum Krug, dating back to 1720, is one of them. The first floor is painted white and has dark-green shutters framing leaded windows. The timbered second floor has a fairy-tale quality: it is painted dark green, merrily set off by an intricate design of gold grapevines. To add the finishing touch to this quaint house, bright-red geraniums overflow from green boxes below each of the windows. There is no doubt about what awaits the guest within—suspended over the entrance is a jug of wine, enclosed in a wreath of grapes (the restaurant has its own winery). Inside, the decor is appropriately rustic with a beamed ceiling, small tables with wooden chairs, Oriental throw rugs, and a dark-green tiled stove along the wall. Upstairs there are guestrooms which, although simple, all have their own private bathrooms. Reasonably priced, the Zum Krug offers great value, and the Laufer family extend a warm welcome and make this a very special place to stay. It is less than an hour’s drive from the Frankfurt airport, a convenient distance after a tiring transatlantic flight.
