The Romantik Hotel Traube, conveniently located across the expressway from the Stuttgart airport, is a beguiling little inn. Should you be flying into Stuttgart to visit the Mercedes factory and perhaps pick up a car, the Hotel Traube would be an excellent choice for a place to spend the night since the factory is only a short drive from the hotel. The contrast between this small inn and the modern industrial city of Stuttgart, only about a half-hour’s drive away, is dramatic. Located on a small cobblestoned square just off a main street that cuts through this modern suburb and contained in a cluster of three timbered buildings, the Hotel Traube offers an escape from the more sterile surroundings. The most famous feature of the hotel is its restaurant, and the staff is understandably quite occupied with meal service at lunch and dinner. The food is exceptional and the decor worthy of multiple stars. Tables laid with soft-pink cloths, flowers, and candles are tucked under beams into cozy corners paneled in rich wood. If you’d prefer less formal dining, consider the neighboring casual restaurant, managed by the gracious son and daughter who maintain the same high standards set by their parents. The guestrooms, located far enough away from the street to be quiet, are attractive with traditional decor and comfortable beds topped with fluffy down comforters.
