Karen's Review Of This Property:
The 300-year-old Gasthaus Backmulde enjoys a quiet location just off the main pedestrian street of Heidelberg’s picturesque old town. This lovely small and atmospheric establishment offers an intimate restaurant and 16 bedrooms, a few of which were beautifully renovated in recent years. From the street, guests pass under the old stone-arched doorway to enter the softly lit restaurant filled with fresh flowers, antique pieces, old mirrors, photos, and paintings from Heidelberg. The restaurant, decorated in tones of red and green, offers excellent food in a cozy atmosphere. The hotel section faces its own quiet, enclosed courtyard. A staircase, whose pleasing soft-yellow walls are brightened by an overhead skylight, leads up one floor to the reception area and the breakfast room. A blue color scheme prevails throughout, including a patterned carpet of excellent quality. Each of the bedrooms is attractively decorated in pretty, blue floral draperies (with white sheer curtains beneath) and color-coordinated fabrics on the bedcovers (rooms 23 and 24 are special favorites). The bathrooms are not large, but each is new and spotlessly clean. The Gasthaus Backmulde is our favorite small hotel in Heidelberg.
