Karen's Review Of This Property:
The atmosphere of the Middle Ages prevails in the narrow, winding, cobblestoned streets leading to the Château Grimaldi, built in 1309 by Raynier Grimaldi, the ruler of Monaco. As the streets become narrower, passing under buildings that form an archway, you arrive at Le Cagnard, a hotel that has been in operation for over 40 years. Continuing the tradition of welcome perfected by the Barel family, their daughter and her husband, Madame and Monsieur Barel Laroche, are now the resident innkeepers. Dinner on the terrace, set under a full moon, or indoors, with the atmosphere of a medieval castle with candlelight flickering against age-old walls, is a romantic experience and the presentation of the food is exceptional. The elevator is charming, presenting biblical paintings changing with each floor. Guestrooms are located either in the main building with the restaurant or tucked off cobbled streets in neighboring buildings. Rooms have a medieval flavor to their decor and are comfortable, but not overly luxurious. A few prize rooms enjoy patios with wonderful views over the tiled rooftops out to the countryside.
