Karen's Review Of This Property:
Le Domaine de Mestré, a former agricultural estate belonging to the Fontevraud Abbey, dates back to the 12th century and stones in the courtyard evidence an ancient Roman road. You enter through gates into the courtyard. Immediately to your left is a pretty barn, which now houses a boutique featuring beautifully packaged soaps and bath oils manufactured right on the property by three generations of the Dauge family. Because all their products are without any artificial coloring, fragrances, or chemicals, they are very popular. Across the courtyard from the boutique, the 12th-century chapel has been converted into the dining room, attractively decorated with yellow walls and small tables set with yellow linens. Also facing the courtyard, the bedrooms are in two separate stone buildings. All are attractive and most have antique furniture and feature Laura Ashley fabrics, and we were thrilled to see the new family suite that has been converted from the girls’ childhood bedrooms. The gracious Dauge family strives to make each guest feel welcome in their home. The Dauge’s daughter, Marie Amélie is taking over the management of this lovely property so that her parents can retire. She prepares lovely meals using ingredients from the estate farm.
