A glimpse of the dramatic Château de la Bretesche with its clustering turrets will draw you through the gates but it is the luxury of accommodation at the neighboring hotel that will tempt you to settle. This elegant hotel is distanced from the château by the encircling waters of La Bière and elegantly housed in what were once the château’s stables and farm buildings. Its 200-hectare grounds back onto its own golf course where ancient trees and mature rhododendrons of the national park make this an idyllic setting. Off the handsome, stone-tiled entry a very attractive bar is cleverly incorporated into the former stables, with individual groupings of tables in each stall and old wood, troughs, and implements attractively featured in the decor. Tables are set in the gourmet restaurant facing floor-to-ceiling windows, which afford views of the water. Guestrooms in varying categories are located in the principal building and in the Résidence wing. With a wonderful tranquil setting, the hotel is convenient to the rugged beaches of Brittany yet removed from the often harsh winds. La Bretesche offers an ideal spot in which to break your more traditional sightseeing to play golf or tennis or lounge by the pool.
