Dana and Robert Ornsteen, your charming American hosts, lived for many years in Paris before purchasing L’Enclos, an enchanting hamlet in the heart of the idyllic Périgord. The complex (once the estate of the Count de Souffron) encloses a courtyard, on one side of which sits the manor, a creamy-beige, two-story home, prettily accented by white shutters. Also facing the courtyard is a cluster of stone cottages, which exude a whimsical, storybook character with their jumble of steep, weathered, interconnecting rooflines and perky gables. Two guestrooms are found in the manor house—the others occupy the hamlet’s ivy-laced, yellow-hued stone cottages. The cottages are named for their “past”: La Boulangerie still has its bread ovens; La Chapelle occupies the old church; romantic Rose Cottage has thick stone walls, painted furniture, and Provençal fabrics. Two cottages have full kitchens. The gardens are outstanding, with impeccably manicured lawns, weathered stone walls, and gorgeous flowerbeds. A swimming pool nestles in a lush grassy oasis. Everything is absolute perfection, and the price is incredible for such superb quality. You will love it.
