Karen's Review Of This Property:
The village of Riquewihr is encircled by a tall wall and surrounded by vineyards. Within the walls the narrow pedestrian streets are lined with ancient brick-and-timber houses built to produce wine on the ground floor while the family lived upstairs. Riquewihr is an idyllic little town and the Hôtel l’Oriel is ideally situated for exploring the Alsace wine region. On a narrow side street, the hotel occupies a 450-year-old building. Guests enjoy several public rooms: a large breakfast room, a small sitting area, and an inviting wine salon and bar in the cellar. Steep stairs and narrow corridors lead to the guestrooms, which overlook either the narrow street or a tiny central courtyard (it’s not a place for large suitcases). Bedrooms are all very nicely decorated and outfitted with TV and phone. Three rooms have just been renovated in a building across the passage. They are spacious, beautifully appointed, and offer incredible value. Serge and Sylviane are a charming couple and wonderful hosts. They are happy to recommend restaurants in the village.
