Karen's Review Of This Property:
I was enchanted by the Hostellerie le Maréchal and the gracious Bomo family that extends a warm and sincere welcome while exuding a fierce pride in their home, their “dream.” The hotel itself is a clustering of four charming 15th-century buildings whose common walls have been opened up to accommodate an interconnecting passageway that jogs and weaves at a slant along the various levels. Hung heavy with geraniums, the front of the inn is set back off the road behind its own gates, and the half-timbered back of the inn sits on the edge of the meandering path of the River Lauch. The hotel enjoys a lovely, picturesque setting in a quarter referred to as Colmar’s “Little Venice” and is within walking distance from the heart of town. Le Maréchal’s 30 guestrooms are individual in their ornate and flowery decor, and priced according to size and whether they overlook the front courtyard or the river. My favorite rooms here are not always the lavishly decorated suites but some of the cozy, smaller rooms. Set under the old beams, staggered on different levels, there are numerous niches, alcoves, and loft areas that comprise the hotel’s wonderful restaurant, À l’Echevin, and deciding at which romantic spot to dine might pose a greater problem than selecting from the incredible offering of its menu!
Directions: Easy to find following the city’s signs for the hotel, the hotel is also conveniently located 1 km from the train station.
